| EL VERBO SER THE VERB 'SER' |
The verb SER means "TO BE" in English (there is another verb "ESTAR" with the same meaning) and it is a commonly used verb in Spanish. It is an irregular verb, that is, it does not follow the rules of conjugation, which means you have to learn it by heart. This is how you conjugate it:
| YO | SOY |
| TÚ | ERES |
| ÉL/ELLA/USTED | ES |
| NOSOTROS/AS | SOMOS |
| VOSOTROS/AS | SOIS |
| ELLOS/AS/USTEDES | SON |
We use the verb SER in the following situations:
1.- When we want to describe a person or an object in terms of character, size, colour, material, appearance

Mi padre es inteligente My father is intelligent
La mesa es de plástico The table is made of plastic
2.- When we want to talk about the nationality and occupation of a person
Ellos son irlandeses They are Irish
